In 2019, New York State recognized the importance of implementing stop-arm camera laws and signed legislation authorizing school districts to install safety cameras on school buses to catch drivers who unlawfully pass a stopped school bus and ensure the safety of New York’s students. In late 2020, Suffolk County implemented the largest school bus safety program of its kind across 71 school districts and more than 5,000 school buses. The resources below are available to participating school districts to empower communities to raise awareness and promote safer driving behavior around school buses.
